Lake Bogoria Safari
Walk beside hissing geysers and bubbling hot springs, then watch a shimmering pink tide of lesser flamingos stretch along the shoreline below the Siracho Escarpment. Tanajay Safaries plans Lake Bogoria safari packages from Nairobi, from a single-day tour to a full Rift Valley lakes holiday.
Kenya's Steaming Soda Lake in the Rift Valley
A Lake Bogoria safari is built around fire and water rather than open plains — a narrow, saline lake pinned between the Rift Valley floor and the sheer wall of the Siracho Escarpment, and home to the largest cluster of geysers and hot springs found anywhere in Africa. Lake Bogoria Kenya sits roughly 250km north of Nairobi in Baringo County, reached in about 4 to 5 hours by road through Nakuru and Marigat. Along the western shore, close to 200 thermal vents hiss and bubble beside the water, some throwing jets of scalding spray several metres into the air, while the alkaline lake itself feeds the blue-green algae that draws lesser flamingos here in their hundreds of thousands.
At Tanajay Safaries, we provide everything needed to turn that into an easy, well-run trip. We handle the details so you don't have to:
- Custom Lake Bogoria safari packages built around your dates, whether it's a quick tour or a longer Rift Valley holiday
- Kenya-based driver-guides who know the geyser trails, viewpoints and best flamingo counts on any given week
- Combination routes pairing Lake Bogoria with a Lake Baringo boat safari or a Lake Nakuru wildlife drive
- Campsite, lakeside resort or spa lodge accommodation matched to your budget
- 24/7 support for every Lake Bogoria tour, from Nairobi pickup to drop-off
Whether it's a quiet, less-crowded escape or an add-on to a longer Kenya itinerary, Tanajay Safaries plans the route, books the lodge, and keeps everything running smoothly from start to finish.

Lake Bogoria Safari FAQ
Lake Bogoria can be visited year-round, since the geysers and hot springs are active every day of the year. The drier months, roughly June to October and January to March, tend to bring lower water levels and larger gatherings of lesser flamingos.
Lake Bogoria is roughly 240 to 270km north of Nairobi, a drive of about 4 to 5 hours via Nakuru and Marigat. A standard Lake Bogoria day trip covers the geyser and hot spring walk on the western shore plus a game drive along the lakeshore, while overnight packages add a stay at a lakeside resort or campsite.
Lake Bogoria sits in a narrow trough below the Siracho Escarpment and holds Africa's largest concentration of geysers and hot springs, with roughly 200 thermal vents along its western shore. It is a Ramsar-listed wetland known for its lesser flamingo flocks, and is one of the few reserves where the elusive greater kudu can occasionally be seen.
Expect lesser and greater flamingos, pelicans and over 350 recorded bird species around the lakeshore, plus greater kudu, Burchell's zebra, impala, Grant's gazelle, warthog and Kirk's dik-dik in the surrounding bushland. The lake itself is too alkaline for fish, hippo or crocodile.
