Kenya's Closest Rhino Sanctuary & Flamingo Lake

A Lake Nakuru safari is built around one of Kenya's easiest wildlife wins — a fenced sanctuary holding around 70 white rhinos and 25 endangered black rhinos, an alkaline Rift Valley lake famous for its flamingos and pelicans, and Rothschild's giraffe browsing the acacia woodland. Lake Nakuru National Park sits in Nakuru County, roughly a 2.5-3 hour drive or a 20-minute flight from Nairobi, and its compact size (just 188 km²) means you can cover the whole park — lake shore, Baboon Cliff viewpoint and rhino territory — comfortably in a single day.

At Tanajay Safaries, we provide everything needed to turn that into an easy, well-run trip. We handle the details so you don't have to:

  • Custom Lake Nakuru safari packages built around your dates, budget and pace — a day trip to a full multi-park circuit
  • Kenya-based driver-guides who know the rhino territory, the best lake viewpoints and the resident big cats
  • Airport pickups, transfers and camp bookings across every budget tier, handled end to end
  • Combination routes that pair Lake Nakuru with the Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha or Amboseli
  • 24/7 support before, during and after your safari

Whether it's your first Kenya safari or you're adding Lake Nakuru National Park to a longer trip, Tanajay Safaries plans the route, books the camps and keeps everything running smoothly from the moment you land.

Lake Nakuru Safari FAQ

Lake Nakuru National Park is a year-round safari destination, but June to October, the dry season, offers the easiest game viewing. Bird numbers on the lake vary with rainfall and water levels throughout the year.

Lake Nakuru is compact enough to see in a single day, making it Kenya's most popular day-trip safari from Nairobi. Extend to 3-4 days to combine it with the Masai Mara or Lake Naivasha.

Flamingo numbers on Lake Nakuru rise and fall with the lake's water levels and algae supply, so sightings vary by season. Even when flamingo numbers are lower, the park remains one of Kenya's best rhino sanctuaries and birding destinations.

You can drive from Nairobi in about 2.5-3 hours, or fly to Nakuru in around 20 minutes. Tanajay Safaries arranges both options as part of your package.
