Samburu Safari
Track the rare Special Five along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, in a wilder, less-crowded corner of northern Kenya.
Tanajay Safaries plans personalised Samburu safari tours, from short Special Five breaks to full Kenya safari circuits. Discover Samburu's dramatic landscapes, unique wildlife and unforgettable encounters along the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Kenya's Wildest Frontier, Along the Ewaso Nyiro
A Samburu safari is built around species and scenery you won't find in southern Kenya — the rare "Special Five" (Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich), big elephant herds crossing the Ewaso Nyiro River, and the living culture of the Samburu people. Samburu National Reserve sits in Samburu County, roughly a 1-hour flight or a 5-6 hour drive from Nairobi, and its rugged, semi-arid landscape and lower visitor numbers make it one of Kenya's most rewarding, least-crowded safari destinations.
At Tanajay Safaries, we provide everything needed to turn that into an easy, well-run trip. We handle the details so you don't have to:
- Custom Samburu safari packages built around your dates, budget and pace — 2 days to a full multi-park circuit
- Kenya-based driver-guides who know the river crossings, the Special Five hotspots and the local Samburu conservancies
- Airport pickups, transfers and camp bookings across every budget tier, handled end to end
- Combination routes that pair Samburu with the Masai Mara, Amboseli or a Diani Beach add-on
- 24/7 support before, during and after your safari
Whether it's your first Kenya safari or you're adding Samburu National Park to a longer trip, Tanajay Safaries plans the route, books the camps and keeps everything running smoothly from the moment you land.

Samburu Safari FAQ
June to October, the dry season, is the best time for a Samburu safari, when animals gather along the Ewaso Nyiro River. January to March also offers excellent game viewing with fewer crowds.
Samburu National Park is compact, so 2-3 days is enough for a focused Special Five and river safari. Extend to 5-7 days to combine Samburu with the Masai Mara or Amboseli.
Samburu is home to the "Special Five" — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich — species found almost nowhere else in Kenya, plus a distinct semi-arid landscape and the culture of the Samburu people.
You can fly from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Samburu in about an hour, or drive 5-6 hours by road via Nanyuki. Tanajay Safaries arranges both options as part of your package.
